Silent Vigil for Victims of the Fur Trade (Toronto)
This is a tribute to the animals who have lost their lives at the hands of the fur trade, either as targeted animals, or as “trash” animals (birds, endangered species, dogs and cats). We invite you to assemble with us, and honour their memory by publicly standing against fur.
Important details:
- Because this is a silent vigil, we have specially assigned people to field questions/hand out materials.
- Don’t bring anything, all signage/messaging/literature will be provided.
- If possible, dress in dark colours. Red scarves will be provided, which we encourage you to wear for the duration of the vigil.
- We will ask people to hold deactivated traps, photographs of animals commonly killed in traps (including some of the dogs and cats who have lost their lives over the years), and signs focused on the ‘facts’ most people don’t know about fur.
- We encourage people to stay for the duration of the vigil, but welcome anyone who can come, even if only for a while.
- Please dress warmly, as the nature of the vigil means there won’t be a lot of opportunity to move around.
Please meet at the Yonge/Dundas entrance (by the Sears and H&M).
